Balin, invigorated by his experiences as part of Thorin’s company, led the Dwarves of Erebor against the Goblin hordes that had infested the tunnels and cities of Moria. Though initially successful, the reformation of the Kingdom of Moria was not to last, and soon war and calamity befell the Dwarves that dwelt there. Flói joined Balin as his Lore Master – a venerable position granted only to the wisest of all Dwarves. It is the Lore Master's task to keep meticulous records of all Dwarven battles, making notes on their foes and how best to defeat them, preserving knowledge for years to come.

In battle, Balin is a fearsome fighter and leader whilst Flói’s great wisdom confounds foes, denying them their most powerful abilities.
